Normally I do not write about new releases from security product manufacturers, but this Cisco ASA version resolves some disadvantages against Checkpoint. IT IS
And I would be glad to test those since I am a Cisco fun :-)
The HW models are all supported, the question is if the features make it too:
New Features that make Cisco and Checkpoint Firewalls closer to each other:
– Site-to-Site VPN in multiple context mode -> Well known feature by Checkpoint VSX
– Dynamic Routing in multiple context mode -> Well known feature by Checkpoint VSX
– Mixed firewall mode support in multiple context mode -> Can a Checkpoint VSX do that?
– Clustering with more than 2 firewalls! -> Well known Feature by Checkpoint since 199x
– ASA Services Module support on the Cisco 7600 switch
I would say it was time to implement those features now.
The complete list can be found here, I would say this is really huge now :-) :

There is another nine but they have nothing new…

I would prefer the last “nine” above but whatever :)
Yeah I agree that ASA 9.x is a nice OS improvement. Its good that Cisco now has a uniform operating system running on all ASA ranges (5500 and the new 5500-X series).
