The Ubuntu is my best OS after Fedora. The basic installation contains many applications I need, but not all. I am pretty sure that I will reinstall my linux and those apps should I install again:
– skype from http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/linux/
– openssh-server – secure shell (SSH) server, for secure access from remote machines
– virtualbox – x86 virtualization solution – base binaries
– vlc – multimedia player and streamer
– k3b – Sophisticated CD/DVD burning application
– openxenmanager and xen (have to google a little..)
– what else…
java:
– openjdk-7-jdk – OpenJDK Development Kit (JDK)
– openjdk-7-jre – OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT
– icedtea-7-plugin – web browser plugin based on OpenJDK and IcedTea to execute Java applets
